Özet

This study focuses on historical memory and the rewriting of the past in Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a novel centred on the Biafran War (1967–1970). It examines the way the author revisits this traumatic episode in Nigerian history in order to reconstruct a collective memory that has long been marginalized and pushed to the edges of official accounts. The main research problem guiding this study is as follows: how does fictional narrative contribute to the reappropriation and reconfiguration of national history? The general objective is to analyse the narrative techniques through which Adichie articulates individual and collective memory, while also interrogating the silences, the omissions, and the forgetting of official history. The theoretical framework draws, on the one hand, on memory studies (Halbwachs, Ricoeur) and, on the other hand, on postcolonial theory, both of which highlight the issues of representation, identity, and power inherent in the writing of history. From a methodological standpoint, the approach adopted is based on qualitative textual analysis, focusing on the narrative structure, the polyphony of voices, and the symbolism of the conflict. The findings show that the novel functions as a genuine space of counter-memory, giving voice to the victims and reshaping the national narrative through the human experience of trauma. It is therefore recommended that literary works be integrated into historiographical reflection, in order to foster an understanding of the past that is at once plural and critical.                                                                             Bu çalışma, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie'nin Biafra Savaşı'nı (1967–1970) konu edinen Half of a Yellow Sun romanında tarihsel bellek ve geçmişin yeniden yazımını incelemektedir.
